Biking holidays in the City of Zaragoza
Cycling in Zaragoza, Spain has never been safer since the local government built a new system of cycle infrastructure around the city. It has been constructed mainly for the commuter however it has become so successful that it is now one of the best ways for the tourist on holiday to see the city. The cyclists are completely separated from the traffic on purpose built tracks which are found on all major routes. There is a circular route on the outskirts of the city which takes in the Milenio bridge shown here on the Left. There is a 6 mile off road track which cuts right across the heart of the city and passes right past the Cathedral of Nuestra Senora del Pilar where you can stop and take a break, sample some local tapas and explore the city centre. These off road routes also link into the local canal system which extends out and far from the city and today is used for recreation, holiday makers, joggers, cyclists etc. No wonder Zaragoza gets mentioned as one of the 4 secret bike capitals in Europe on the Bike City Guide |
Make a bike route a part of your city holiday break
The city of Zaragoza was named after Ceasar Augustus, its history is mainly Roman , as you walk or ride around the city centre you will find examples of Roman architecture, there are plenty of museums telling the origins and history of Zaragoza. Cycling here is very pleasant because it is mainly flat, as the city was built on flood plains and there are many bike routes to choose from. If you don't have your own bike with you on holiday or just want the freedom to pick up and collect a bike whenever you want, there is the option of rent a bike scheme from the local city council, BiziZaragoza. Or stop by La Cicleria, it is a place for cyclists where you can take a break and enjoy a good cup of coffee, repair your bike, hire a bicycle and get to know other bike lovers. |
